Worcester roads are too narrow

Yes, Worcester is a historic city but there is plenty of space for safe cycle infrastructure. Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps commissioned the Rapid Cycle Prioritisation Tool by Dr Robin Lovelace to find spare space on roads for cycle lanes. The top roads with spare space to accommodate cycle lanes according to the tool are:

  • Barbourne Road
  • Croft Road
  • Blackpole Road
  • Hurst Lane
  • Sidbury
  • City Walls Road
  • New Road

There would also be increased road space if the free car parking bays were removed on:

  • Foregate Street
  • Grandstand Road
  • Severn Terrace
  • The Tything

In Paris, Mayor Anne Hidalgo is planning to remove 70,000 car parking spaces. So, it's less about the size of our Faithful City’s roads,  but more about the narrow political will at Worcestershire County Council.
