Cycling through the new lockdown

The new lockdown regulations started on 5 November and will be in force until 2 December. As with the first lockdown only essential journeys are allowed. On those journeys the Government is encouraging you to walk or cycle rather than take the car or public transport.Under the new restrictions cycling and being active is still being strongly encouraged. Its good for your physical and mental health. What’s different this time are the rules about who you can exercise with have been relaxed a little. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Only ride alone, with those in your household/support bubble, or with one person from another household (the rules don’t apply to children under 5).
  • Exercise locally where ever possible and avoid driving to begin your ride.
  • Stay two metres apart from anybody not from your household/support bubble.
  • If you have any coronavirus symptoms, are self-isolating, sharing a household /support bubble with somebody with symptoms, or have been told to self-isolate after being contacted by NHS Test and Trace, you should stay at home.
  • There are no restrictions on how long or how often you can ride, however, stay within your abilities and prepare accordingly, especially if you are riding alone.

For clarity, if you are riding with a person from another household, you can only do this as a pair. This means riders from the same household can’t ride in a group with another person from another household.
