Update: 7th June 2022

[Photo caption: "We're going to need a bigger boat" - we've asked Sixways Stadium to increase their cycling parking. Next door (at David Lloyd) was rammed for the last game of the season on 4th June. #demand]Here's another little round up of cycling news. Grab a cup of tea and your favourite biscuit...

Featured route

Another child-friendly route, this time from Claines to Crowngate via Ghulevelt Park and Pitchcroft Racecourse. It's not a route for race days but is a very pleasant cycle with good accessibility (bollards in Ghulevelt Park and entrance to Pitchcroft requires use of the car park rather than the entrance on Waterworks Road). See here for more details

Bike news

Worcester welcomed Gina Harris on Sunday! Gina will be the oldest female to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats. Dan Brothwell joined her on Sunday for a wet and windy stage of her journey. Follow Gina's adventure here, and donate to her fundraising for Women's aid and Refuge.Kudos to St John's Cycling Club for their impressive and engaging kids track at the Diglis Fields Jubilee event (7th June). Children of all ages were able to take their own bikes for a spin around the technical course, and try out different bikes for size.In other Jubilee-related news, this weekend we had lots of lovely examples of liveable streets and walking/cycling neighbourhoods. We're asking people to share their #spaceforpeople photos from Worcester this weekend with us on Twitter. Some of our volunteers met with officers from the County Council today to discuss close passes on the road between Worcester and Grimley. The discussion was broad and we've passed on suggestions and ideas for improving road safety across the County. We've asked for an update on these initiatives and on feedback for the DfT for tranche 3 funding in the next few weeks.Noteable mentions this week include constructive dialogues with local residents and companies. John Inge (Bishop of Worcester) has been invited to Critical Mass after a discussion about close passes and cycling two abreast. Pencroft (a construction company with operations in the area) have swapped messages on the need for improved driver training. Thank you to everyone for your efforts in educating others about the benefits of improved cycling safety - sharing experiences and personal perspectives is a great way to shift cycling culture and every conversation matters.

Events

The next Critical Mass ride is 18th June and it's the first Birthday celebration! Meet at Cafe Viaduct at 1015 for a 1030 departure. It's not a Bike Worcester event, but you'll find lots of the community there. Suitable for all ages, abilities and cycle types.Bike Worcester has been invited to The Worcester Show on Sunday 14th August. Do you want to lead guided bike rides to and from the event from different parts of Worcester? We will help to reduce traffic and it's a great way to meet local cyclists. Please get in touch!

Rob Collier

Loves a Bike Bus. Bubbles. Has silly ideas that are sometimes supported by others. Can often be found holding up car traffic. Stickers are brilliant.
